Abstract
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is seeking to appoint a capable and experienced provider to carry out a specific piece of work around the following
Leading an examination of archives and collections that can shed light on Merthyr Tydfil’s pivotal role in the industrial revolution and its subsequent development.
Reviewing collections to help shape the physical proposals for the development of a National Centre for Industrial Heritage. The results of the archive study will inform the work of exhibition designers for the new centre.
Working with organisations such as Merthyr Tydfil Leisure Trust, Glamorgan Archives and National Museum for Wales.
Creating a register of all findings so a detailed record of information is available to support any future developments.

Total quantity or scope of tender
To search for written and any other material evidence that will assist in the creation of exhibits for an international quality visitor attraction. These materials would be related, but not necessarily limited to the telling of the following stories:
-the growth of iron-making and the history of industrial innovation
-the ironmasters and their relations with their work force
-the industry’s international reach – to France, Russia and America
-social conditions, including the role of women
-social and political development – including the Merthyr Rising of 1831
-the Aberfan disaster
In doing so the study will at all times to keep in mind the potential of all materials to contribute to impactful visual display.
