Abstract

The digital learning platform, Hwb, provides all learners, teachers, maintained schools and other relevant stakeholders with access to a range of bilingual digital infrastructure, tools and resources to transform digital teaching and learning in Wales. Keeping Safe Online is a dedicated area of Hwb which has been developed to directly support digital resilience in education across Wales. The content is publicly available and can be accessed freely through Hwb by all. The Digital Resilience in Education (DRiE) team are responsible for the Keeping Safe Online area and actively engage and collaborate with a range of online safety experts to ensure the content is relevant, timely and appropriate. Through Keeping Safe Online, DRiE provides advice, guidance and teaching resources on a breadth of online issues to support schools in Wales. We also provide advice and support specifically for learners and their families to support them in navigating the online world. As part of our support for families, we produced a series of 35 bilingual guides on the latest and most popular apps, social networks and games used by children and young people. These guides provide parents and carers with information on how these apps are used, highlight any risks and concerns the apps pose and provide advice and tips on their suitability for children and young people. The aims and objectives of this requirement are: • To ensure the accuracy of the app guides by reviewing and updating them regularly. • To ensure that new and emerging apps that become popular with children and young people are reflected in the suite of app guides.
