Abstract

The contract will consider the pressures acting on independently qualifying terrestrial and freshwater features on SSSIs in Wales. In total there are some 1070 SSSI in Wales supporting in the order of 3,500 biological features falling into more than 700 unique categories. The bulk of these feature categories are plant and animal species, with relatively fewer habitats and species assemblages. The aims of this contract are: a) To identify all the key pressures acting on the various habitats and species types for which SSSIs in Wales have been notified (feature types). b) To identify the key sources of evidence related to each pressure and, where possible, using this to quantify the likelihood and/or intensity of that pressure acting on a given feature.
