Abstract

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB)’s Primary care Mental Health Support service is seeking to procure short-term counselling / psychological therapy provision for a waiting list initiative. Short-term counselling / psychotherapy, (including Trauma) would need to be provided to patients aged 14 + with a range of mild-moderate mental health needs for whom counselling / psychological therapy has been identified as being an appropriate course of clinical action. Approximately 1/3 of all referrals will be for CYP 14-18 years old with the remainder being adult 18+. The specification is for the provider to deliver 500 episodes of individual counselling, with each episode being up to 8 appointments, thus totalling 4,000 one-hour counselling appointments in total.  It is expected that where individual clients do not use / require the full 8 sessions, unused sessions would in effect by ‘recycled’ meaning that additional clients would be offered blocks of counselling, ensuring that the total of 4,000 appointments are used. The majority of PCMHSS interventions are currently being delivered remotely by telephone or using the Attend Anywhere video platform. A small number of patients approximately 10% are being seen in face to face clinics. The clients that are referred to the provider will have attended an initial appointment with a PCMHSS Practitioner and therefore have a clear and specific plan for the therapeutic intervention to be carried out. As a result, there will be no need for ‘re-assessment’ by the provider
