Abstract

In 2018, Public Health Wales carried out a nationally representative population survey to understand patterns of engagement with digital technology to support health amongst Welsh residents aged 16 years and over (previous reports available here: https://phw.nhs.wales/topics/digital-technology-and-health/). The findings highlighted marked digital inequalities in Wales, with specific differences amongst those with underlying poor health, and provided valuable insights into how people in Wales engage with the internet, apps and other digital devices to support their health. The findings have helped inform digital inclusion guides for Wales (https://wales.coop/new-guide-promotes-digital-inclusion-in-health-and-care-in-wales/) and policy action on digital inclusion (https://gov.wales/digital-inclusion-forward-look-towards-digitally-confident-wales-html). Through this tender, Public Health Wales wishes to commission a nationally representative household survey in Wales, specifically seeking to understand how people engage with the internet and technology with regards to health and wellbeing, and sociodemographic differences in reported benefits and harms, and how that has changed within the context of COVID-19.
