Description of the contract
GMCA wishes to appoint a suitable qualified and experienced ecologist to;
Undertake a Great Crested Newt survey of waterbodies within 250m of 21
work areas, see Annex A for detailed maps. NRW have deemed a waterbody
as, ‘any feature which holds water either permanently, seasonally or
following periods of heavy rainfall’. If GCN are found at a work site, an assessment should be made to whether the work we propose to undertake will require a licence. Due to time and financial constraints, we would explore alternative works to avoid the need for a licence. For example, Cadw required us to undertake a heritage Impact Assessment, where there was areas of high historical importance, the creation of a ditch and bund was replaced by a
more sensitive solution such as placing boulders on the ground surface.
Water Voles – NRW have informed us that although they are not aware of
any records of this species in the proposed work areas, they would like the
potential presence of this species considered by a professional ecologist.
