The Centre for Automotive & Power System Engineering (CAPSE) based within the Faculty of Computing, Engineering & Science is a nationally recognised independent research, development, test and certification house with a reputation for cutting edge research and knowledge transfer activities within the advanced automotive and power systems engineering sectors.

The University of South Wales seeks an organisation to help it expand its current research and development activity.

Mission

SESS is a collaborative innovation and R&D operation, giving large, medium and small enterprises within the WWV region access to leading academic knowledge and research facilities. It will be demand led by the companies, researching and piloting new innovative technologies, products and processes, specifically in electrical energy storage, with strong post operation commercial potential for the enterprises. SESS will address the need to drive research activity and innovation within industry in Wales, to maximise the contribution of Welsh businesses to future economic growth.

SESS will demonstrate SMART specialisation and capitalise on existing University strengths (via the Centre for Automotive & Power Systems Engineering - CAPSE), developing high quality research and innovation capability leading to increased/improved productivity and economic growth. It will provide companies with access to state-of-the-art research facilities combined with academic expertise to facilitate the development of new products and processes and increased market share.

The University of South Wales, SESS (Sustainable Energy Storage Solutions) Hub requires a set of bi-directional power suppliers (3 off) with a high current output as per the specification below. The equipment is to be used in conjunction with the SESS research projects, where over the coming 2 years we aim to develop a wide range of new innovative energy storage designs with automotive, stationary and portable power applications. Specifically, the testers are to be used individually and in parallel (increased current output).

• Manufacture, assemble and deliver 3 bi-directional power supplies

Interested parties must be able to demonstrate their ability to support the SESS CAPSE in its mission to deliver its R & D operation through their output based solution.

They must be able to fulfil the technical specification through their output based solution.

Your tender submission must be uploaded to the Sell2Wales portal Postbox.

Your submission must be received by the closing time and date of midday, Friday 17th April 2020.

Under the terms of this contract the successful supplier(s) will be required to deliver Community Benefits in support of the authority’s economic and social objectives. Accordingly, contract performance conditions may relate in particular to social and environmental considerations. The Community Benefits included in this contract are:

Community Benefits Proposal

As part of the tendering process the University will be looking at ways that even more value may be obtained and would like to seek community benefits from this tender. All Bidders are to submit their proposals for delivering Community Benefits through their engagement in the awarded contract. This is to be captured in a Community Benefits Proposal.

Community Benefits Proposal will not be scored as a part of the Tender assessment.

Community Benefits Guidelines

Community Benefits in the procurement context are about ensuring that wider social, economic and environmental issues are taken into account when tendering contracts, to maximise the investment as widely as possible. The University is committed to delivering Community Benefits through its sourcing activity.

Community Benefits are a non-Core requirement and will not be evaluated as part of the Tender.

Upon award the successful Bidder(s) will be expected to work with the University to maximise the Community Benefits delivered through this contract. This will include, but is not limited to:

Successful Bidder(s) will be encouraged to secure other positive outcomes that would benefit the University and the community they operate within for example:

• Sponsoring student projects or competitions

• Student placements / internships

• Scholarships

• Guest Speaker slots / lectures

When submitting your tender you will need to submit a plan separate to the tender proposal detailing how you would anticipate delivering any benefits through this contract.
