Abstract

Introduction The Cardiff Catalysis Institute (CCI) are in the process of moving to dedicated research laboratories that will be situated within the Cardiff University Translational Research Hub. Along with other analytical and material characterisation equipment, there will be a number (20+) Gas Chromatography instruments (GC’s) equipped with Flame Ionised Detectors (FID’s). as well as GC-MS, being moved to the facility. These will be situated across four floors (Level 0, 3, 4 & 5) and require a constant supply of pure H2 at approximately 5.5 bar to be used for carrier gas as well as detector gas. The University seeks to purchase four Hydrogen generators, one per floor, and encourages bids from suppliers that have experience of supplying Hydrogen Generators to research laboratories of a similar nature and have dedicated support in the UK. Scope of Requirements Within the existing laboratories CCI use a mixture of Hydrogen cylinders and Hydrogen Generators to supply FID’s only. Due to safety, regarding the use of Hydrogen cylinders, Hydrogen will solely be supplied via. Hydrogen Generator’s with internal leak detection and automatic shutdown. Also, with increasing cost and availability of Helium, which is currently predominately used as carrier gas, the CCI would like to phase out the use of Helium and use the supplied Hydrogen as carrier gas. Bidders should have relevant experience of supplying generators for this purpose.
