Abstract

Building Resilience into Catchments – Develop a delivery framework for a Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) based nutrient trading scheme for the Milford Haven and Cleddau Catchment. Building Resilience into Catchments (BRICs) is a Welsh Government funded project under the RDP Sustainable Management Scheme- This project proposal is being managed by PCF on behalf of a partnership between Natural Resources Wales, Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Pembrokeshire County Council, Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, Pembrokeshire Marine Special Area of Conservation Relevant Authorities Group, National Farmers Union Cymru, Farmer’s Union of Wales, RWE Generation UK Plc, Pembrokeshire Nature Partnership, PLANED and the Port of Milford Haven. This partnership will evaluate the RFP, provide feedback on the scope of works (section 5) and steer the project. Additional members maybe added during the project. Building Resilience into Catchments will create a partnership framework between land managers, industry, commerce, government and third sector, working collaboratively to develop and implement a Nutrient Credit Exchange - a nutrient based Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) scheme for the Milford Haven and Cleddau catchment. The Nutrient Credit Exchange will be a market-based PES scheme that provides a streamlined, consistent and robust nutrient assessment process for developing a rigorous and credible nutrient trading/offsetting scheme.
