Abstract
The Cardiff University website was designed in 2013 from a desktop-first perspective. It uses responsive design techniques to provide a somewhat optimised experience on mobile devices but we suspect that the scaled down design for smartphones (in particular) is not that successful in actual use.
Cardiff University has been provided funds to review and improve the mobile journey of the website, this is to ensure that as focus moves to mobile for students viewing content on their mobile. The university require support to complete user testing and design phases to ensure that any new approaches are inline to best meet the user needs.
The work is divided into three phases. We are looking for guidance on the best approach to each phase.
Firstly, we require usability testing of the University website on mobile devices with real users. A report should be produced to inform the next phase, identifying strengths and weaknesses with recommendations on how the site can be improved.
Secondly, we require a collaborative design process with our in-house team to create a new design for testing.
Finally, we require the new design to be validated with real users and a final report created to inform development.
