Abstract

The NHS Wales Shared Services Partnership, hosted by Velindre NHS Trust are acting on behalf of Cardiff and Vale University Local Health Board who sought to establish a contract for a Neonatal Ophthalmology Mobile Camera, Printer and Accessories along with fours years maintenance and support after warranty. Within Welsh Regional Neonatal units the Ophthalmology team have to have the ability to examine infant’s retina’s to ensure that premature eyes have not been damaged as they are especially prone to this through oxygen therapy. The camera will be used to check all premature infant’s eyes as it can help clinicians discover, diagnose and manage paediatric vision disorders. Historically, the unit has an approximate twenty year old camera which requires replacement and hence a grant application has been approved. The Welsh Regional Neonatal Unit takes referrals from across Mid, West and South Wales. It is the only centre in Wales that provides Neonatal surgery and takes all fetal referrals. Due to this, more complex cases are referred to this Health Board and as such it is vital to have this piece of equipment within the unit.
