Abstract

Cardiff University’s Research Infrastructure Fund is funding the purchase of a Cznery-Turner Optical Spectrometer. The funds have been awarded to FOACS to establish an open access optical cryostat system with capabilities for high resolution confocal micro photoluminescence (µPL) across the visible-NIR (650–800 nm) and Telecom (1300–1570 nm) ranges and with the capability to be expanded to cover other spectral ranges. This includes the capability to detect and analyse the optical signals spectrally. The system will be used for study of crystal defects, 2D materials and quantum dots. The requirement is for an imaging optical spectrometer of a Czerny-Turner (or variants thereof) design for spectral analysis of light from the confocal photoluminescence setup. The system should be capable of direct spectral analysis of light in the visible-NIR spectral range (650-800nm) using a high sensitivity scientific spectroscopic camera, capable of long exposures to detect light from single photon emitters. It should also be capable of being used as a monochromator with light from a selected spectral range transmitted through motorized output slits.
