This component of WES is envisaged as a three-wave panel survey, with fieldwork conducted via the internet. WES will seek a sample size of 3000 respondents for all three waves.

A pre-election wave will be implemented in late March 2016, before the start of the official election campaign period. To minimise problems of endogeneity in estimating explanatory models, many potential independent variables for explaining voter turnout and party choice will be measured in this first wave.

A second-wave of sampling, the rolling campaign study, will be implemented over the 30-day period immediately prior to the election. Approximately 100 respondents will be sought on each day; this wave of the survey will close at midnight on 4th May 2016. The survey for this wave will be shorter, and will concentrate primarily on immediate voter impressions of the campaign.

The post-election wave will be implemented immediately after voting ends on 5th May 2016. All pre-election wave participants will be contacted for the rolling campaign and post-election surveys.
