Abstract

The University of South Wales Sustainable Environment Research Centre (SERC) requires a R&D Hydrogen and Syn Gas Analysis system in order to achieve some of the aims and objectives of work package 6 of the WEFO funded FLEXIS project, which focusses on the sustainable production of hydrogen and methane is a significant challenge for the realisation of a low carbon future. However the implementation of these sustainable energy gases for large scale deployment requires that they are produced at sufficient purity to be used in existing and future gas storage and utilisation technologies. The purity for hydrogen fuel cells is particularly challenging and we need to demonstrate technologies and meet and achieve these targets. To achieve this ambition we are aiming to purchase as highly sensitive gas analysis instrument capable of measure at sub parts per million levels.

Total quantity or scope of tender

Measurement & Control System

Ability to determine the composition of a number of complex gas mixtures from anaerobic fermentations, syngas, steel furnace gases, coke oven gases, etc.

The gas mixtures will contain CO2, CO, H2, N2, NOX, CH4, light hydrocarbons, H2S and sulphur oxide gases, H2O and O2 as well as particulates. The instrument should be able to identify and quantify these gases.

A range of 200 or 300 amu for the analytes is required.

The system will need to be able to quantify as well as identify the initial composition of these gases in the original sources possibly in % levels.

Potential ability to look at contaminants in “pure” hydrogen at sub ppm levels i.e. 10 ppb.

The instrument should be tolerant to potentially corrosive gases with water and particulates present.

The instrument ideally should be able to analyse discrete samples from syringe or be able to take on-line samples multiplexed from a minimum of two sample sources.

The instrument should be should be compact and have the ability to be used in a mobile trolley system.

Hardware & Software

Appropriate software for analytical data analysis specified.

A computer system supplied as necessary to operate instrument.

The analytical data should be accessible in a raw data form but also be able to output the concentration values of the specified gases in a form usable in common data logging and control software such as Labview.

Delivery & Installation

Delivery to the site within 8 Weeks.

Operator instruction & training.

1 Year standard warranty plus 1 year extended warranty, with onsite repair and 15 days response time.
