Abstract

The aim of this work is to evaluate the impact to fish migration created by four small to medium sized weirs in the Severn Uplands and provide design solutions to mitigate the issues at each site. This work is especially important for salmon, a species currently of conservation concern in the Severn catchment. The grid reference location of the barriers are: SO 20891 90903 SO 23485 92823 SO 19575 98626 SH 99739 06514 The work will assess each barrier to fish migration, propose options to resolve the issues and provide a detailed construction drawing and supporting information for the most favourable option. The objective of this work is to provide the information required to move onto constructing each solution at a later date when funding becomes available. The key elements of this contract to be completed at each of the four barriers are: - a feasibility study; describe all parameters affecting fish passage at each site, site access and influences on potential fish passage solutions. - an options appraisal justifying potential solutions for fish passage at each site. - a detailed design for the preferred solution, providing construction ready drawings. The specific requirements for each stage of the work can be viewed in the tender document. A preliminary feasibility study has been carried out at three of the barriers and can be made available upon request.
