Abstract

Velindre Cancer Centre (VCC) provides non-surgical tertiary oncology services for the patients of South East Wales. The cancer centre provides both SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatments), supportive care treatment and radiotherapy treatments in a variety of settings. Patients receiving SACT or Radiotherapy treatments either as an inpatient or outpatient / day case have the potential to become unwell and may require immediate treatment and interventions. It is therefore, of paramount importance that clinical staff are able to recognise and respond appropriately and deliver safe, timely, effective and appropriate care, management, advice and if appropriate, prompt resuscitation of these patients. The provision of high quality resuscitation training is key to enabling staff to be both competent and confident in responding to medical emergencies and VCC is seeking an external partner to work with to deliver comprehensive and accredited resuscitation training for its clinical staff. This will include: • Immediate Life Support (ILS) • Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS) • Basic Life Support (BLS) & AED training • Paediatric Basic Life Support (PBLS) • Cascade Training for BLS and AED training • Simulation training – mock unplanned scenarios • Training and updates on resuscitation equipment used at the cancer centre In addition, this includes the provision of a comprehensive training service for VCC clinical staff and the provision of a resuscitation equipment audit service, provision of advice and support in relation to resuscitation training and services and attendance at key / relevant meetings, including the VCC Resuscitation Committee.
