Abstract

Social Business Wales would like to commission a report that investigates the potential that social businesses have to create jobs and tackle poverty in difficult trading economies, particularly in rural, post industrial, inner city and coastal communities. The report will build on previous work developed by the Wales TUC ‘Better Jobs, Closer to Home’, CReW’s Deep Place Study Report ‘Toward a New Settlement’ and UK wide research such as Joseph Rowntree Foundations, ‘We Can Solve Poverty in the UK’. The report will illustrate practical examples of social businesses stimulating local economies, creating jobs and attracting private investment. The aim of the report and its accompanying recommendations is to create a framework that policy makers in public sector and governmental organisations can use to help stimulate growth within the social business sector in Wales. The report will illustrate examples of best practice and specific examples of individual social businesses (or clusters of social businesses) stimulating economic outputs. It will provide recommendations for practical policy measures that could be implemented to facilitate this sort of practice across the country. It is envisaged that the report will address the different needs and opportunities found within the differing communities in Wales and will utilise examples from rural, urban, valley and coastal communities.

Social Businesses Creating Growth in Wales - Report

2.2

Description of the goods or services required
