Abstract

A pyrolysis GC-mass spectrometer (pyrolysis-GCms) is required which can carry out ultra-fast heating of organic-based samples (e.g. coal, coke, biomass, paper, plastic, tyres etc.) and analyse the gaseous products from this heating. Broadly, these types of measurements are carried out in a hyphenated system which links a heating system for pyrolysis of the samples (the pyrolizer) with an analytical system (the GCms) to separate and analyse the chemical products. Thus, the whole pyrolysis-GCms instrument can be sub-divided into 3 sub-systems (see below) which could, for tender purposes, be considered as 3 lots but, once installed, they must be able to operate cohesively. Lot 1. The pyrolyzer Lot 2. The gas chromatograph (GC) Lot 3. The mass spectrometer (MS) We wish to source a research-capable instrument which can analyse chemically heterogeneous samples (e.g. coal, coke, biomass, paper, plastic, tyres etc.) to very high temperatures (i.e. up to 1400°C) and at very fast heating rates (e.g. 100ms). The instrument must be reliable and easy to clean and maintain to ensure sample throughput and the software should be versatile, upgradable and easy to use to enable rapid analysis of potentially large and complex data sets.

Description of the contract

Lot 1. The pyrolyzer

Lot 2. The gas chromatograph (GC)

Lot 3. The mass spectrometer (MS)

We wish to source a research-capable instrument which can analyse chemically heterogeneous samples (e.g. coal, coke, biomass, paper, plastic, tyres etc.) to very high temperatures (i.e. up to 1400°C) and at very fast heating rates (e.g. 100ms).
