CONSTRUCTION WORKS AT DEESIDE
INDUSTRIAL PARK, SHOTTON
Knauf Insulation is currently working on plans to develop a state-of-the-art
manufacturing facility within Deeside Industrial Park.
OUR VISION FOR SHOTTON
Following remediation and preparation works to the 12-hectare brownfield site,
our proposal is to create a cutting-edge, sustainable rock mineral wool
insulation manufacturing facility.
THE NEW FACILITY
The new plant would use advanced submerged arc furnace melting technology to
produce ultra-low embodied carbon rock mineral wool products. By using
renewable electricity instead of traditional coke-fired processes, we expect to
reduce our direct emissions by over 90% per tonne of output produced.
As a company focused on creating sustainable solutions, we are fully committed
to managing the impact of the project on air quality, noise, traffic and
ecology – both during the facility’s construction and its ongoing operation.
Our proposed design has therefore been informed by a full and rigorous suite of
environmental, technical and historical studies, with appropriate mitigation
planned where needed.
The appearance of the planned buildings will reflect Knauf Group’s global
branding, which uses cream as the main colour with blue and grey signage. A
full impact assessment will ensure the facility sits appropriately within the
landscape.
