Abstract

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (the client) wishes to extend and upgrade its play area for families and young people at our main National Park Visitor Centre (NPVC). The objective of this project is to increase our play provision that: -engages with children, young people and their families, and -supports the wider centre (tearooms, shop and visitor information). -can be enjoyed year round and in both good and bad weather The area allocated to this project is to the side of the existing play area and covers approximately 30m x 20m of level grassed ground. The NPVC is accessible by large lorries and the grounds have a relatively flat profile, with toilets and welfare facilities on-site. The site chosen for the play unit is 50 metres away from the nearest vehicle access point but can be reached by a tarmacked pedestrian path. Our target audience is 18 months-7 year olds, and we have had specific feedback from visitors that there is insufficient play from provision for the younger age groups. We want multiple play units with the following; • 2 bay flat seat swings • 2 bay cradle seat swings • 1 Birds nest swing • 1 Square/Rectangular multi activity unit to cove approx. 45m2 with maximum 600mm drop. This unit should be an obstacle journey around or through its perimeter offering climbing, balance, traversing and swinging. • 1 Pick up sticks activity unit to cover at least 75m2 which will also include a journey around its perimeter of climbing, swinging, balance and traversing. • 1 toddler friendly activity unit with short climbs and slide. The play unit and all of the equipment which it comprises will need to be sympathetic in look and feel to the existing play equipment and the natural environment of the National Park and should reflect its countryside setting. The tender should also include safety flooring which we would prefer to be safety matting that allows grass to grow through, but will also consider a small amount of suitably coloured wet pour flooring beneath the swings. Wood/wood effect structures are preferred to metal/plastic/GRP structures as the latter are out of keeping with the location. The tender should cover all design and installation costs and would leave the Visitor Centre with a "ready to function" play area. The tender would also cover technical drawings of the proposed design to submit for planning consent. A full brief with photographs and maps is available to download. The delivery of this project will depend on a successful planning application and release of funding. Site visits should be booked in advance with Wayne Lewis on the contact details provided between up until 8th October 2021.

Description of the goods or services required

The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority (the client) wishes to extend and upgrade its play area for families and young people at our main National Park Visitor Centre (NPVC).

The objective of this project is to increase our play provision that:

-engages with children, young people and their families, and

-supports the wider centre (tearooms, shop and visitor

information).

-can be enjoyed year round and in both good and bad weather

The area allocated to this project is to the side of the existing play area and covers approximately 30m x 20m of level grassed ground.

We want multiple play units with the following;

• 2 bay flat seat swings

• 2 bay cradle seat swings

• 1 Birds nest swing

• 1 Square/Rectangular multi activity unit to cove approx.
