Title
School Sport Survey 2022: Data Weighting Contract
|
2.2
|
Description of the goods or services required
Sport Wales requires an external consultant to weight the 2022 School Sport Survey data during August 2022, ready for dissemination in September 2022.
Weighting the datasets aims to correct for the inevitable imperfections in the sample of responses collected that might otherwise lead to bias and other departures between the sample and the population. Such imperfections include, for example, non-response which might lead to an imbalance in the proportion of schools and pupils completing the survey in different local authorities, and incomplete coverage of the population meaning that the distribution of key variables of interest, and which might affect sports participation, is not representative of the population. The sampling weights compensate for these imperfections and can be used to produce accurate estimates of population characteristics of interest together with their associated sampling errors. In addition to adjusting for non-response, Sport Wales requires the distributions of gender, year group and free school meal (FSM) entitlement be accounted for in the weighting. FSM entitlement is used as a proxy for deprivation, with each school being classified according to their FSM quartile based on the percentage of pupils being eligible for free school meals. FSM quartiles are defined separately for primary and secondary schools. Gender and year group information is available for each school as the number of pupils in each gender / year group combination.
