Title

Maesteg Town Hall: Design, supply and installation of theatre retractable, fixed and loose seating

Description of the goods or services required

We are seeking to appoint a suitably experienced and skilled specialist to design, manufacture, supply and installation of theatre auditoria seating systems. In summary, these include:

• Main Hall:

o a retractable mobile system with ca. 148 seats over 8 rows (subject to further survey, design and structural loadings)

o ca. 160 loose seats, to be used on flat floor in front of retractable mobile system, but also in other configurations without the retractable system, such as banqueting and conferences

o full refurbishment or renewal of existing balcony raked seating (ca. 260 seats)

• Studio Theatre / Cinema:

o ca. 40 fixed, raked seats over 4 rows, with the “cinema experience” in mind

o ca. 20-30 loose seats, to be used on flat floor in front of rake. It would be beneficial if these are of same type as the other loose seats, so that they can be shared between spaces.

• Extra:

o Additional 40-50 loose seats, same style as above, to provide a maximum banqueting capacity of 220.

Although the supply and installation of the seating is not expected prior to April 2022, we will expect the nominated specialist to be able to commence the necessary design works immediately. This is to provide other specialists the information they require (e.g. loadings for structural engineer).

3 Conditions for Participation

Minimum standards and qualification required

Our structural engineer’s initial (but unconfirmed) assessments is that a retractable mobile system should be viable, subject to the constraints identified in section 2.2.2. However, their sign-off is dependent on the preferred bidder being able to provide relevant and confirmed loading parameters. If our structural engineer subsequently deems that the retractable system is incompatible with the building’s structure, then regrettably we may be unable to proceed any further.
